Voluntary pensions, on the other hand, are not mandatory and are taken out by individuals or employers to supplement statutory pension coverage. These can include occupational pensions arranged by employers or individual pension savings plans. Voluntary pensions offer additional financial security and flexibility in retirement planning. The Finnish pension system aims to ensure a reasonable standard of living for all citizens in their later years, adapting to demographic changes and economic conditions.
