Elektrochemikë is the Albanian term for electrochemistry. Electrochemistry is a branch of physical chemistry that studies the relationship between electrical energy and chemical change. It is concerned with reactions that can produce electricity or consume electricity to bring about chemical change.

Key concepts in electrochemistry include redox reactions, electrolytes, electrodes, and electrochemical cells. Redox reactions involve the transfer of electrons between chemical species. Electrolytes are substances that conduct electricity when dissolved in a solvent or melted, due to the presence of mobile ions. Electrodes are conductive materials that serve as interfaces between the electronic conductor and the ionic conductor of an electrolyte. Electrochemical cells are devices that convert chemical energy into electrical energy or vice versa.

There are two main types of electrochemical cells: galvanic cells (also known as voltaic cells) and electrolytic cells. Galvanic cells generate electricity from spontaneous redox reactions, while electrolytic cells use electrical energy to drive non-spontaneous redox reactions.

Applications of electrochemistry are widespread and include batteries, fuel cells, electroplating, corrosion prevention, and electrochemical sensors. Batteries, for instance, store and provide electrical energy through reversible electrochemical reactions. Fuel cells convert chemical energy from a fuel into electrical energy through an electrochemical process. Electroplating uses electrolysis to deposit a thin layer of one metal onto another, often for decorative or protective purposes.
