ehitust

Ehitust is the Estonian term for construction, referring to the process and the industry involved in building structures and related facilities. It encompasses planning, design, procurement, execution, and ongoing maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and civil works.

The word comes from the verb ehitada, "to build". Ehitust is the partitive/genitive form used in everyday and official language, with common phrases such as ehitustöö (construction work) and ehitustööde korraldamine (organization of construction works).

A typical ehitust project begins with feasibility studies and design, followed by permitting, budgeting, and procurement. Construction then proceeds with on-site work, supervision, safety management, and quality control, culminating in commissioning and handover. The activities involve professionals such as architects, engineers, project managers, and contractors, as well as inspectors and authorities.
