Econometrista is the term used in some Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking contexts to refer to a professional who applies econometric methods to economic data in order to quantify relationships, test theories, and forecast variables. The English equivalent is econometrician. Econometristas work in universities, government agencies, central banks, research institutes, and private firms, often in collaboration with policymakers, analysts, and other researchers.

Their core activities include model specification and estimation, statistical inference, and the evaluation of policy or market hypotheses. They use time-series, cross-sectional, and panel data, and rely on causal inference methods such as instrumental variables, natural experiments, difference-in-differences, and regression discontinuity designs. Common tasks are forecasting macroeconomic indicators, assessing the impact of policy changes, and building risk or demand models for firms. Analysts employ software tools such as R, Stata, EViews, Python, and MATLAB, and may apply techniques ranging from linear regression to vector autoregressions, cointegration, generalized method of moments, and Bayesian methods.

Professionals usually hold degrees in economics, statistics, or mathematics, and many have master's or doctoral training in econometrics or quantitative economics. The field emphasizes rigorous data handling, model validation, and transparent reporting to support reproducible research.
