Druktransmitters, also known as pressure transmitters, are process instruments that measure pressure and transmit a signal proportional to that pressure to a control system. They are used to monitor and control pressures in industries such as chemical, oil and gas, water treatment, and manufacturing. Most units convert the sensed pressure into a standardized electrical output, typically a current loop (4-20 mA) or a voltage signal, which can be read by controllers, data acquisition systems, or safety systems.

The sensing element is the core of a druktransmitter and determines its performance. Common technologies include strain-gauge, capacitive, piezoresistive, and resonant silicon sensors. The element deflects in response to pressure, and this mechanical change is converted into an electrical signal. Temperature effects are compensated within the transmitter to maintain accuracy over a specified range. Signal conditioning and, in many cases, digital communication capabilities are integrated to provide linearization, dampening, and diagnostics.

Transmitters may be configured in several ways. Gauge pressure transmitters measure relative pressure, absolute transmitters measure pressure above a vacuum, and differential transmitters measure the difference between two pressures. Sanitary, rugged, and explosion-proof variants are used for specific environments. Outputs include analog (4-20 mA, 0-10 V) and digital protocols such as HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, or Profibus, with some models offering wireless options.

Key specifications include accuracy, temperature range, wetted materials, pressure range, response time, and ingress protection. Proper selection and regular calibration ensure stability and reliability in ongoing process control. Safety and compliance considerations may require ATEX/IECEx certification and adherence to relevant industrial standards.
