Disperksjonskrefter, also known as dispersive forces or Van der Waals forces, are weak intermolecular attractions that arise from temporary fluctuations in electron distribution within molecules or atoms. These forces are fundamental to understanding various physical phenomena, including condensation, adhesion, and the behavior of non-polar substances.

Disperksjonskrefter occur because electrons in a molecule or atom are constantly in motion, creating transient dipoles—temporary regions of partial charge. These dipoles can induce similar dipoles in neighboring particles, resulting in an attraction between otherwise non-polar entities. Although individually weak compared to covalent or ionic bonds, dispersive forces become significant when large numbers of molecules interact or when molecules are in close proximity.
