diskia
Diskia is a genus of fungi belonging to the family Sclerodermataceae. Species within this genus are commonly referred to as earthballs or false truffles. They are characterized by their generally tough, leathery peridium, which is the outer layer of the fruiting body. The gleba, the internal spore-bearing tissue, is typically firm and solid, often becoming powdery or dusty as it matures and the spores develop.
These fungi are found in terrestrial environments, often growing on the ground in woodland and grassland habitats.
Identification of Diskia species can be challenging and often requires microscopic examination of spores and other
