Diskdetainerlås, or disk detainer lock, is a type of mechanical lock that uses a stack of circular disks called detainers arranged along a central axis. Each detainer has a notch or groove on its edge, and the key carries matching notches or raised segments. When the correct key is inserted, the notches lift or position the detainers so that all notches align at a single shear plane, allowing a sidebar or driving mechanism to retract and the plug to rotate.
