Dial-in, also written dialin, is a term used in telecommunications and technology with multiple related meanings. In teleconferencing, a dial-in service provides a telephone number, an access code or meeting ID, and sometimes a host PIN. Participants call the number, enter the codes, and may be placed in a waiting room until admitted. Benefits include accessibility for users with limited internet bandwidth and compatibility with traditional phones. Typical features include toll or toll-free numbers, participant codes, moderator controls, and options to record or mute attendees. Security concerns include the risk of unauthorized entry or toll charges; mitigations include changing meeting IDs, enabling a waiting room, and using passwords or authentication.

In other contexts, to dial in means to adjust controls to achieve a desired result, such as setting audio gain, equalization, or effect levels on a mixer or amplifier, or configuring a telescope, instrument, or software. The process is usually iterative: establish a baseline, listen critically, and selectively tweak parameters.
