Determinaties is the plural form of determinatie, a Dutch term for the act of determining or identifying the taxonomic identity of a specimen. In English-language usage this is commonly rendered as determination or identification, especially in biology, paleontology, archaeology, and chemistry. Determinaties arise when a specimen is classified to a taxonomic level such as species, genus, or higher ranks, or when its material or origin is clarified.

Determination typically involves comparing observed characteristics with reference descriptions, using dichotomous or multi-access keys, consulting literature, examining type specimens, and, more recently, DNA barcode data. The determiner may be an individual expert or a team, and the resulting document is a determination record. In museums, herbaria, and other collections, determinaties are recorded on specimen labels and in database records, often including the determiner's name, date, the basis for the determination (character states, key used, literature), and notes on uncertainty.

Determinaties may change over time as taxonomic concepts are revised or new evidence emerges. Multiple determinaties for a single specimen may appear in parallel or sequentially, reflecting different opinions or revisions. The term is chiefly used in Dutch-speaking scientific and curatorial communities; English equivalents include identification, determination, or taxonomic assignment.
