derivacióostomi
Derivacióostomi, often referred to as a colostomy or ileostomy depending on the location of the stoma, is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdominal wall to divert the flow of fecal matter from the digestive tract. This opening, known as a stoma, is surgically created from a portion of the colon or small intestine. The stoma is typically located on the abdomen and protrudes slightly. Following surgery, a person will wear a pouch or bag that attaches to the skin around the stoma to collect the waste. The decision to perform a derivacióostomi is usually made when a portion of the bowel is diseased, damaged, or needs to be bypassed. This can be due to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), bowel obstruction, colon cancer, or trauma. The procedure can be temporary, allowing the bowel to heal, or permanent, depending on the underlying medical reason. Management of a stoma involves regular emptying of the collection pouch and skin care around the stoma site to prevent irritation. While it represents a significant change in lifestyle, individuals with a derivacióostomi can lead fulfilling lives with proper education and support.
