Dendriittisiä is a Finnish term—an adjective form derived from dendriittinen—that describes things related to dendrites, the branched extensions of neurons that receive synaptic input. In neuroscience, dendrites form a complex arbor that extends from the neuronal soma and are the primary sites where most synaptic contacts are made. Dendritic spines, small protrusions on the dendritic shaft, host most excitatory synapses and are highly dynamic, changing shape and number in response to activity.

Function and significance: Dendrites perform local computation by integrating excitatory and inhibitory inputs before these signals influence the neuron's output.
