Demagnetiseringstillstånd refers to the state of a material that has been subjected to a magnetic field and subsequently had that field removed or reduced. When a ferromagnetic material is exposed to a magnetic field, its magnetic domains align themselves with the external field, resulting in a net magnetization. Upon removal of the external field, some residual magnetization may remain, which is known as remanence. The demagnetiseringstillstånd therefore describes the magnetic state of the material after this process.

The degree of demagnetiseringstillstånd depends on several factors. These include the material's magnetic properties, such as its coercivity, which is the resistance to demagnetization. Demagnetization can be achieved through various means, such as applying an alternating magnetic field that gradually decreases in strength, heating the material above its Curie temperature, or mechanically striking the material. The goal of demagnetization is to reduce the material's net magnetization to a desired level, often close to zero. This is important in applications where residual magnetism could interfere with the material's function, such as in magnetic storage media or precision instruments.
