In Swedish, dagordning denotes the sequence of agenda items for a meeting, while in Danish and Norwegian, dagsorden serves a similar function as the agenda for a session. In Swedish practice, a related term often used in formal documents is föredragningslista, which lists items to be addressed and may include references to background papers and motions. The underlying concept is the same across these languages: a structured outline of topics, priorities, and decisions to be considered.

A typical dagordning or dagsorden includes essential elements such as the meeting’s title, date, time, and venue, followed by numbered items with concise titles and, where relevant, short descriptions or references to supporting documents. Time allocations or expected decisions may be indicated for each item. The agenda is usually prepared by the chair or secretary and adopted or confirmed at the start of the meeting.
