cümleciktir

Cümleciktir is a Turkish grammatical term formed from the noun cümlecik, meaning a short clause or clause-like unit, plus the copular suffix -tir, used to make a declarative predicate. The combination yields the meaning “it is a cümlecik.” In Turkish grammar, the word describes a classification or identification role of a linguistic unit rather than a standalone action.

Morphology and usage. The suffix -tir is one of the declarative copulas in Turkish and has several phonologically conditioned variants (such as -dir, -dır, -dur, -dür). When attached to a noun like cümlecik, it marks a factual attribution: Bu ifade bir cümleciktir means “This expression is a cümlecik.” The form is predominantly used in descriptive, analytical, or pedagogical contexts, especially in grammar explanations, glossaries, and language-learning materials, to state that a given unit functions as a cümlecik rather than a full sentence.

Cümlecik terminology. Cümlecik or “minor clause” is a term used in Turkish linguistics to refer to a clause-like unit that is smaller or functionally subordinate to a complete sentence.
