cyclosporiasis
Cyclosporiasis is a parasitic infection caused by the protozoan parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. It is typically contracted through the ingestion of contaminated food or water, particularly fruits and vegetables. The infection is characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea, which usually resolves within a few days. However, in some cases, the symptoms may persist for several weeks, and in rare instances, cyclosporiasis can lead to more severe complications such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and in severe cases, death.
The parasite is resistant to common disinfectants and can survive in the environment for extended periods,
Cyclosporiasis is more commonly reported in tropical and subtropical regions, but cases have been documented worldwide.
