A cyclecar is a type of lightweight automobile produced chiefly in the 1910s and early 1920s, designed to be cheaper and simpler than conventional cars and to fill a gap between motorcycles and full-sized motor vehicles.

Typically built around motorcycle components, cyclecars used small, air-cooled engines, motorcycle transmissions, belt or chain drives, and a lightweight frame. Bodies were minimal and often open-topped. Seating was usually for one or two occupants; three-wheel configurations were common, though four-wheel cyclecars also appeared. Weights were light, and engine displacements commonly ranged from about 0.5 to 1.0 liters, producing modest horsepower (roughly 5–15 hp) and top speeds well under those of larger cars.

Originating in the United Kingdom around 1910, the cyclecar boom extended across Europe and North America in the prewar years. They were marketed as affordable motoring during a period when automobiles were expensive for most buyers, aided by low tax horsepower ratings and limited insurance costs. Production numbers skyrocketed, with many small firms entering the market. World War I interrupted manufacturing, and the postwar period saw renewed but short-lived demand. Competition from mass-produced small cars, improvements in standard automobiles, and changing regulations contributed to a rapid decline; by the late 1920s the cyclecar industry had largely vanished, with only a few survivors evolving into light cars or sport-roadsters.

The cyclecar era influenced later designs by highlighting the appeal of lightweight, economical transportation and integrating motorcycle technology into car design, a theme that persisted in some budget or sport models in subsequent decades.
