Cyanelle, commonly referred to as a cyanelle, is the plastid found in glaucophyte algae (division Glaucophyta). These organelles are believed to originate from a cyanobacterial endosymbiont and retain several ancestral features of cyanobacteria, including a peptidoglycan layer between two membranes.
