Csiszolási is a term in Hungarian referring to the process of material removal from a workpiece by abrasive action, with the aim of shaping, smoothing, or finishing surfaces. It covers grinding, sanding, and polishing operations and is used across metalworking, woodworking, ceramics, and plastics.

The process utilizes abrasive media such as grains bonded in wheels (csiszolókorong), belts (szalag), discs, or papers (csiszolópapír). Workpieces are held by fixtures or machines; common equipment includes bench grinders, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and centerless grinders. Methods are categorized as rough grinding for rapid material removal and finishing or polishing for surface quality. Operations can be performed dry (dusty) or with fluids for cooling and lubrication (wet grinding).

Abrasive materials include aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, ceramic, and zirconia; grain sizes range from coarse to fine, and bonding types (vitrified, resin, metal) affect wheel life and finish. Typical applications include removing excess material on metal parts, deburring, shaping wood or plastics, trueing ceramic pieces, and finishing tool surfaces. In production settings, csiszolási sequences may involve rough grinding, semi-finishing, and final polishing, sometimes followed by lapping or buffing to achieve specified tolerances and surface textures.
