A cornetist is a musician who plays the cornet. The cornet is a brass instrument similar to the trumpet, but with a more conical bore and a narrower mouthpiece. These differences give the cornet a mellower, warmer tone than the trumpet.

Cornetists are found in various musical genres, including brass bands, jazz ensembles, marching bands, and orchestral music, though it is less common in orchestras than the trumpet.
