corioamnionitis
Corioamnionitis is an infection of the amniotic fluid and membranes surrounding the fetus during pregnancy. It is typically caused by ascending bacterial infection from the lower genital tract, most commonly the vagina and cervix. The most common pathogens involved are group B streptococcus and Escherichia coli. Symptoms of corioamnionitis in the mother may include fever, uterine tenderness, and vaginal discharge.
