Conductometric refers to conductometry, a measurement technique used to determine the electrical conductivity of an aqueous solution. It provides information about the ionic content and mobility in a solution and is widely used in chemical analysis, process control, and research. Measurements are carried out with a conductometer that subjects the solution to an electric field via electrodes, typically with temperature control to ensure accuracy.

The principle rests on the conductance G between two electrodes, which is the reciprocal of resistance. Conductivity κ is related to G by the cell constant C through G = κ × C, where C equals the distance between electrodes divided by their area. Conductivity reflects ion concentration, ionic mobility, temperature, and interactions among ions. It is normally reported as specific conductivity (κ, in S/m or mS/cm) and can be calibrated against standard solutions to ensure reliable results.

Applications of conductometric measurements include water quality analysis, chemical manufacturing, and monitoring of industrial processes. Conductometric titration uses changes in conductivity to determine the endpoint, proving especially useful for reactions involving strong electrolytes or where pH indicators are ineffective. It is also employed to study polymerization, hydrolysis, and salinity in food, pharmaceutical, and environmental testing.

Practical considerations include electrode design and polarization effects. Two-electrode cells are common, but polarization can compromise accuracy; four-electrode configurations or alternating current methods mitigate this issue. Temperature control is essential since κ is temperature dependent. Limitations arise at very high ionic strength, where non-ideal interactions reduce the direct relation between concentration and conductivity, requiring careful interpretation.
