Benefits include erosion control, flood protection, carbon sequestration, water quality improvement, wildlife habitat, fisheries production, and recreational value. Challenges include high costs, long time horizons, regulatory complexity, competing land uses, potential unintended ecological impacts, and uncertainties related to climate-driven changes in sea level and storms.
