Common metrics cover global and regional temperature and precipitation trends, sea level rise, greenhouse gas concentrations, radiative forcing, climate sensitivity, and the frequency and intensity of extremes such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, and storms. Socioeconomic indicators like insured losses or GDP-at-risk may be integrated to assess risk.

Data sources and methods: climatemetry relies on observational networks (satellite data, weather stations, ocean buoys), proxies and paleoclimate records, and climate model outputs. Methods include time series analysis, uncertainty quantification, attribution studies, and ensemble techniques, with emphasis on data standardization and cross-dataset calibration for comparability.

Applications and limitations: used for policy planning, international reporting, climate finance, and adaptation planning. Limitations include uneven data coverage, methodological disagreements about baselines and metric definitions, and inherent uncertainties in attribution and projections.
