Clearbalata is a translucent variety of balata, a natural latex derived from the Manilkara bidentata tree, also known as the balata tree or bulletwood tree. This tree is native to the Amazon rainforest and parts of the Caribbean. Balata itself is a hard, resilient, and durable material, historically used for a variety of applications.

The "clear" aspect refers to its appearance after processing. While raw balata is typically opaque and reddish-brown, through specific refining and purification techniques, clearbalata can be produced. This processed form retains the desirable physical properties of balata, such as its toughness and flexibility, but offers a transparent or semi-transparent aesthetic.

Historically, balata, and by extension its clear variant, found use in the manufacturing of golf ball covers due to its resilience and ability to withstand impact. It has also been employed in the production of shoe soles, tool handles, and as an adhesive or sealant. The development of clearbalata allowed for applications where transparency was an advantage, though its use has largely been supplanted by synthetic materials like polyurethane and thermoplastic elastomers, which offer more consistent properties and cost-effectiveness. Today, clearbalata is a niche material, with its production and application being relatively limited compared to its historical significance.
