Cianoakrilátok, commonly known as super glues, are a group of fast-acting adhesives. They are acrylate monomers that polymerize rapidly in the presence of moisture, forming strong bonds. The most common type is ethyl cyanoacrylate, but methyl, butyl, and octyl cyanoacrylates are also used for specific applications.

These adhesives work by a process called anionic polymerization. The basic components in most glues, such as water molecules in the air or on the surfaces being bonded, initiate the polymerization. This rapid reaction creates long, strong polymer chains that interlock the surfaces together. Cianoakrilátok are known for their ability to bond a wide range of materials, including plastics, rubber, metal, ceramic, and wood. They are typically transparent and cure within seconds to minutes, although full bond strength may take longer to develop.

While effective, cianoakrilátok have some limitations. They can be brittle and may not perform well under high impact or extreme temperatures. They are also sensitive to moisture, which can cause premature curing in the bottle or on the skin. Skin bonding is a common accidental occurrence, and while usually not serious, it requires careful removal. Inhalation of vapors can cause respiratory irritation. They are generally not recommended for use on porous materials like paper or fabric, as the glue can soak through and weaken the bond. Despite these limitations, their speed and strength make them indispensable in many household and industrial applications.
