Chromodactyl is a genus of small, nocturnal, insectivorous mammals native to Southeast Asia. The genus includes two species, Chromodactylus beccarii and Chromodactylus minor, both of which are endemic to the Philippines. Chromodactylus beccarii is found in the Bicol Region and the island of Samar, while Chromodactylus minor is restricted to the island of Mindoro.

Chromodactyls are characterized by their small size, with body lengths ranging from 10 to 12 centimeters, and their distinctive coloration, which includes a mix of brown, gray, and white fur. They have a long, slender snout and large, rounded ears, which are adapted for their nocturnal lifestyle. Their diet primarily consists of insects, which they catch using their sharp claws and teeth.

Chromodactyls are solitary animals and are typically found in lowland forests and scrublands. They are known to be active during the night, resting in tree holes or burrows during the day. Their reproductive biology is not well understood, but it is believed that they give birth to a single young after a gestation period of approximately 100 days.

Chromodactyls are currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, as their populations are stable and they are not facing any significant threats. However, habitat loss and fragmentation due to human activities such as logging and agriculture may pose a threat to their long-term survival. Conservation efforts are needed to protect their habitats and ensure the survival of this unique genus of mammals.
