Changekangaskäpyts, also known as the *Changekanga frog* or *Changekanga tree frog*, is a small, arboreal amphibian native to the rainforests of the Changekanga region in Papua New Guinea. This species belongs to the family Ranidae and is characterized by its slender body, smooth skin, and distinctive coloration, which typically ranges from dark brown to olive-green with irregular dark markings. Its name derives from the Changekanga Mountains, where it is primarily found at elevations between 500 and 1,500 meters above sea level.

Changekangaskäpyts are nocturnal and spend most of their time in trees, feeding primarily on small insects, spiders, and other arthropods. Their diet is supplemented by occasional fruit or nectar, though they are not specialized herbivores. Like many tree frogs, they possess adhesive toe pads that enable them to climb and cling to vertical surfaces with ease. Their calls, which are high-pitched and melodic, are used for territorial communication and mating displays, often heard during the rainy season when breeding activity peaks.

Little is known about their reproductive habits, but they are believed to lay eggs in temporary pools or shallow streams, where the tadpoles develop before metamorphosing into juvenile frogs. The species faces threats from habitat destruction due to deforestation and agricultural expansion, though it is not currently classified as endangered. Conservation efforts in Papua New Guinea focus on protecting forested areas and promoting sustainable land-use practices to preserve its natural habitat.

Research on changekangaskäpyts remains limited, and further field studies are needed to better understand its ecology, behavior, and population status. Its distinctive appearance and ecological role make it an important subject for amphibian conservation and biodiversity research in the region.
