Cementbasert is a term describing materials based on cement as the primary binder, usually Portland cement, mixed with aggregates or fillers and water. In Nordic languages, cementbasert covers a broad range of cementitious products including mortars, renders, screeds, and concrete. It is used for binding, protection, and decoration, and contrasts with lime-based or gypsum-based systems.

Cement-based products comprise cement, aggregates such as sand, water, and often chemical or mineral additives (plasticizers, air-entraining agents, retarders, accelerators) to modify workability and setting. Common forms include mortars for masonry joints, renders and plasters for walls, screeds for flooring, concrete for structural elements, tile adhesives, and repair mortars. Hydration reactions drive strength gain during curing.

Advantages include high compressive strength, durability, fire resistance, and good adhesive properties; however, cementbasert materials can be brittle and prone to shrinkage cracking, porosity, and water ingress. They may be reactive with certain aggregates, leading to alkali-silica reactions or efflorescence. Proper substrate preparation, joint detailing, curing, and protective coatings improve performance and longevity.

Sustainability considerations include the CO2 footprint of cement production; strategies include using supplementary cementitious materials, blended cements, recycled aggregates, and efficient mixes. Standards and testing frameworks such as EN 998-1 for mortars, EN 13888 for rendering mortars, and EN 206 for concrete guide production and quality control, while regional codes provide project-specific requirements. Safety concerns include silica dust exposure and handling of bagged materials.
