cellularinis
cellularinis is a genus of microscopic, unicellular organisms classified within the phylum Amoebopoda. First described in 2021 by Dr. L. Kim and colleagues, the type species is cellularinis globulus. Members of this genus are characterized by their spherical to ovoid bodies, ranging from 50 to 200 micrometres in diameter, and a simple, non-flagellated mode of motility driven by amoeboid pseudopod extensions. They lack a true nucleus, instead possessing a lobed chromatophilic region that houses genetic material in a dispersed chromatin matrix.
These organisms are predominantly found in freshwater and brackish environments, especially in the anaerobic sediments of
The genome of cellularinis globulus has been sequenced, revealing a small, 6.5 megabase pair chromosome with
Ongoing research focuses on the biotechnological potential of cellularinis, particularly their capacity to produce extracellular enzymes
