Castanyeres are traditional Catalan women known for their cultural and social roles during the autumn season, particularly in connection with the celebration of the castanyada, a popular festival in Catalonia, Spain. The term "castanyera" (female form) generally refers to women who participate in the festivities, often dressed in traditional attire. During the castanyada, castanyeres are famously associated with selling and serving roasted chestnuts, a central element of the celebration.

The figure of the castanyera has evolved from a simple street vendor to a cultural icon representing regional heritage. Traditionally, castanyeres wear traditional Catalan costumes, which may include a shawl, headscarf, and skirts, reflecting local clothing styles. They are often seen at markets, streets, and community events, holding large trays of roasted chestnuts, which are enjoyed as a seasonal treat.

The castanyada festival, celebrated on or around October 31st, coincides with All Hallows’ Eve but is distinctively marked by the marking of the chestnuts, sweet potatoes, and panellets (small marzipan-based cakes).
