Boost converters, also known as step-up converters, are a type of switched-mode power supply (SMPS) that can produce an output voltage higher than the input voltage. The basic principle of operation for a boost converter involves storing energy in an inductor and then releasing it at a higher voltage. A higher duty cycle generally results in a higher output voltage. Efficiency is a key consideration in boost converter design, and modern converters can achieve efficiencies well over 90%.
