biologiaan

Biologiaan is a Dutch informal designation for a person who studies biology, typically a student at secondary or higher education. It is not an official title or professional designation. The term is commonly used in conversation, student circles, and online media to refer to someone engaged with biological sciences.

The word combines biologie (biology) with a colloquial Dutch suffix -aan that is used to form informal descriptors for people connected with a field or activity. Because it is colloquial, its exact usage and acceptance vary by region and community.

In secondary education, a biologiaan may be part of a science track focusing on biology, chemistry, and physics. In higher education, a person described as a biologiaan would typically pursue a Bachelor of Biology or an equivalent program, and may continue to master's or doctoral studies in biology-related fields. Practical work often includes laboratory experiments, field work, data analysis, and literature review.

Because it is informal, the term is more common among students and in casual contexts than in official curricula or employment records. When precision is required, it is better to say "student biology" or "bioloog in opleiding" (biologist in training) or to use the official degree title.
