Biogázkezelési refers to the processes involved in managing and utilizing biogas. Biogas is a renewable energy source produced from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter, such as agricultural waste, sewage, and food scraps. The management of biogas encompasses its collection, purification, storage, and eventual application.

Collection systems are designed to capture the biogas generated from digesters. This gas, primarily composed of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), can then be purified to remove impurities like hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and water vapor, increasing its methane content and making it suitable for various uses. Purification methods include scrubbing, membrane separation, and pressure swing adsorption.

Purified biogas, often referred to as biomethane or renewable natural gas (RNG), can be utilized in several ways. It can be injected into the natural gas grid, used to generate electricity and heat through combined heat and power (CHP) units, or serve as a fuel for vehicles. In some applications, raw biogas is used directly without extensive purification for heat generation.

The storage of biogas is also a critical aspect of its management, often employing gas holders or pressurized tanks to ensure a consistent supply. Effective biogázkezelési contributes to waste management, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, and provides a sustainable energy alternative.
