Basområden, or basic areas, is a term used in Swedish planning and statistical contexts to describe defined geographic units that serve as the basis for data collection, analysis, and planning. The exact definition and boundaries of basområden vary by agency and region, and there is no single universal standard. In general, a basområde should represent a coherent territory with similar characteristics or needs, such as population density, land use, housing, or infrastructure, to enable meaningful comparisons and efficient service provision.

Boundaries are often drawn from a combination of factors, including administrative borders, natural features, and transport networks, and they may be adjusted over time to reflect demographic and development changes.
