Basbandsignalering, often referred to as baseband signaling, is a method of transmitting information signals directly over a communication channel without modulation. This means the signal is sent in its original form, within its base frequency band. In contrast to modulated signals, which shift the baseband signal to a higher carrier frequency, baseband signals occupy the lower end of the frequency spectrum.

This technique is commonly used for short-distance communication or within local networks where the transmission medium can effectively carry the signal at its original frequencies. Examples include the signals within a computer, the audio signal transmitted over traditional telephone lines (before digital conversion and multiplexing), and within Ethernet cables.

The primary advantage of baseband signaling is its simplicity and efficiency for short ranges, as it avoids the complexity and potential losses associated with modulation and demodulation processes. However, it is generally not suitable for long-distance transmissions because the signal strength attenuates significantly over distance, and interference from other sources at lower frequencies can be a problem. Additionally, multiplexing multiple baseband signals onto a single channel can be challenging without modulation.
