Economic and regulatory barrierer include costs, tariffs, licensing requirements, and bureaucratic procedures that raise entry barriers for businesses or restrict access to services and markets.

Design and policy responses aim to reduce or remove barrierer through accessibility standards, inclusive design, infrastructure investment, and simplified regulation. In science and engineering, the concept of barriers also appears as energy or activation barriers that must be overcome in chemical reactions or material processes.
