The bangbangregeling, also known as on-off control or two-point control, is a simple control loop feedback mechanism commonly used in systems where precise control is not essential. In this method, the control system has only two possible states: fully on or fully off. The controller switches between these two states based on whether the system's output has crossed a predetermined setpoint.

For instance, in a simple thermostat controlling room temperature, the heater might be fully on when the temperature drops below a certain point and fully off when it rises above another point. This creates a cycle of heating and cooling. The "bang bang" name comes from the abrupt, discontinuous nature of the control signal, which is like a switch being flicked on and off.

While easy to implement and often cost-effective, bangbangregeling can lead to oscillations around the setpoint. This means the system output might repeatedly overshoot and undershoot the desired value. For applications requiring high accuracy or smooth operation, more sophisticated control strategies like proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control are typically employed. However, for many less demanding applications, such as maintaining a general temperature range or controlling simple mechanical movements, the bangbangregeling provides a satisfactory and straightforward solution.
