Baleenové refers to a suborder of marine mammals within the order Cetacea, commonly known as baleen whales. These whales are characterized by the presence of baleen plates instead of teeth in their upper jaws. Baleen is a filter-feeding structure made of keratin, the same material as human fingernails and hair. These plates hang from the upper jaw and are arranged like a sieve, with fringed inner edges.

Baleen whales feed by taking in large gulps of water containing small prey, such as krill, plankton, and small fish. They then push the water out through the baleen plates, trapping the food inside. This method of feeding is known as filter feeding. The size and structure of baleen plates vary among different species, reflecting their specific diets and feeding strategies.

This suborder includes some of the largest animals on Earth, such as the blue whale, fin whale, and humpback whale. Other well-known baleen whales include the right whale, gray whale, and minke whale. Baleen whales are found in oceans worldwide, from polar regions to tropical waters. They are migratory animals, often traveling long distances between feeding grounds and breeding grounds. Their life cycles are closely tied to seasonal changes in prey availability.
