Autorizatie is a formal permission granted by an authorized body or person to perform a specific act or to access a resource. The term is used in several languages and is closely related to authorization or authorisation in English. In legal and regulatory contexts it denotes a license or permit issued by public authorities, such as a building permit, a driving license, an export authorization, or a professional license allowing practice of a regulated occupation. Such authorizations typically set conditions, durations, and compliance requirements, and can be subject to renewal or revocation if the holder fails to meet obligations.

In organizational and information technology contexts, authorization refers to the process of granting rights or privileges to a person or system after verification of identity (authentication). This includes access control models such as role-based access control (RBAC) and attribute-based access control (ABAC), as well as the use of tokens, API keys, and permissions lists. The principle of least privilege aims to minimize privileges to the minimum necessary to perform a task, and revocation mechanisms ensure that permissions can be withdrawn when needed.

The issuance of authorization often involves a formal assessment, documentation, and adherence to policy and law. In many industries, unauthorized actions can result in penalties or illegality, while proper authorization supports safety, compliance, and governance.
