Atomista is a term used to denote an advocate of atomism, a philosophical and scientific viewpoint asserting that matter is composed of indivisible units, or atoms, moving through void. In its traditional use, an atomista seeks explanations of natural phenomena in terms of these fundamental particles and their interactions, rather than in terms of continuous substances.

Etymology and usage vary by language. The form atomista appears in Romance languages such as Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, closely aligned with the English term atomist. It derives from Latin atomista and ultimately from the Greek atomos, meaning indivisible.

Historical development rests with the ancient Greek school led by Leucippus and Democritus, who proposed that all change results from the arrangements and motions of atoms in empty space. The doctrine influenced later Epicurean physics and the broader medieval and Renaissance engagement with natural philosophy. Atomistic ideas experienced a revival during the Scientific Revolution through figures such as Pierre Gassendi and, later, in the development of modern atomic theory.

In contemporary discourse, the term atomista is less common in scientific writing but survives in philosophical and historical contexts to describe adherents of atomism.
