astun
Astún, often written with the accent as Astún, is a ski resort in the Pyrenees of northern Spain. It is located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, near the town of Jaca, and forms the Astún-Candanchú ski area together with Candanchú. The resort sits at high altitude and offers a range of runs for beginners, intermediate, and advanced skiers, served by a network of chairlifts and drag lifts. The pistes are connected to Candanchú by a variety of cross-resort runs, making the combined area one of Aragón’s most visited winter destinations. In addition to alpine skiing and snowboarding, Astún provides facilities such as ski schools, rentals, and mountain restaurants. The season generally runs from December to April, depending on snow conditions. The resort has a history dating back to the mid-20th century and has undergone modernization and expansion, especially in the late 20th century, to improve lift capacity and on-mountain services. The Astún-Candanchú area is a significant part of Aragón’s winter tourism and also serves as a base for year-round mountain activities in the surrounding Pyrenees.
