Armeringsarbete refers to the process of installing reinforcing steel bars, known as rebar, within concrete structures. This reinforcement is crucial for enhancing the tensile strength of concrete, which is inherently strong in compression but weak in tension. Without rebar, concrete structures would be prone to cracking and failure under stress.

The process typically begins with the fabrication or procurement of rebar according to project specifications. This includes cutting the bars to the correct lengths and bending them into desired shapes, often in accordance with detailed shop drawings. The rebar is then assembled on-site or at a prefabrication facility. This assembly involves tying the individual bars together using wire to create a cage-like structure that conforms to the geometry of the concrete element, such as a beam, column, slab, or foundation. Before concrete is poured, the assembled rebar cage is positioned within the formwork.
