Areolaarinen is a Finnish adjective used in medical and biological contexts to denote relation to the areola. The base term areola refers to a circular pigmented area, most commonly the nipple area in humans, but the word can be applied to analogous regions in other mammals. In Finnish texts, areolaarinen describes structures, tissues, or processes associated with the areola, such as areolaarinen kudos (areolar tissue) or areolaarinen alue (areolar region).

In anatomy, the term often appears in descriptions of the nipple-areola complex, which includes the circular pigmented area around the nipple. The areola contains smooth muscle fibers that can cause nipple erection and sebaceous glands known as Montgomery glands, which secrete lubricating substances during breastfeeding. The areola plays a role in protecting and aiding the breastfeeding process, and its appearance can vary between individuals.

In histology, areolar tissue refers to areolar connective tissue, a loose connective tissue type found beneath epithelia in the dermis and mucous membranes.
