Anlurfa is a fictional city and regional capital in the country of Nyara, located on the eastern edge of the continent of Valoria. It lies at the confluence of the Arin and Leri rivers and sits at the foothills of the Sable Range, giving it a climate with hot summers and mild winters.

The name Anlurfa is said to derive from local languages and is commonly interpreted as “fortress by the river.”

Founded in the 12th century as a caravan stop, Anlurfa grew into a regional trading hub under the Nyaran sultanate. It later developed as an administrative center in the modern era and gained prominence with railway and river trade in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Administratively, Anlurfa is governed by a mayor and a 28-member city council within Nyara’s decentralized system. The city proper houses about 450,000 residents; the metropolitan area exceeds 600,000. The population is diverse, with Anliran, Nyari, and immigrant communities.

The economy centers on logistics and trade, supported by river port facilities. Agriculture—primarily citrus and olives—feeds regional markets, while light manufacturing and services provide employment. Cultural life centers on the River Festival and a thriving street-market culture. Languages spoken include Anliran and Nyari.

Key infrastructure includes a ring road, a main railway line, and Anlurfa International Airport. A tram network has operated since 1995. Notable landmarks include Citadel Hill, the Old Bazaar, and the riverfront promenade.

Anlurfa University, founded in 1967, is a major institution offering programs in engineering, humanities, and sciences.
