Alkalmazkodás, commonly translated as adaptation, refers to the process by which living organisms adjust to their environment. Adaptation is a fundamental concept in evolutionary biology, explaining how species survive and thrive over time. These adaptations can be structural, physiological, or behavioral. Structural adaptations involve changes in the physical characteristics of an organism, such as the thick fur of arctic animals to conserve heat or the camouflage of insects to blend in with their surroundings. Physiological adaptations relate to internal bodily processes, like the ability of desert plants to store water or the production of venom by some animals for defense or predation. Behavioral adaptations are changes in how an organism acts, such as the migration of birds to warmer climates or the hibernation of bears during winter. These adaptations are not conscious choices made by individual organisms but rather the result of natural selection acting on variations within a population over generations.
