Aktivitásizomtónus refers to the level of muscle tension present when a muscle is not actively contracting. It is a state of partial, continuous contraction that provides posture and stability. Without proper muscle tone, movements would be jerky and uncoordinated, and maintaining posture would be extremely difficult.

Muscle tone is controlled by the central nervous system, primarily the brain and spinal cord. It involves a complex interplay of sensory feedback from the muscles themselves (proprioception) and motor commands sent back to the muscles. Even when at rest, muscles exhibit a degree of tone due to the continuous firing of motor neurons, albeit at a low frequency.
