Adjungerad is a Swedish term used to describe a person who is attached to an organization as an additional participant or member without being a regular, elected or full-time member. The word stems from a root meaning to join or attach to something, reflecting the idea of adding an external contributor to a body or activity.

In boards and committees, an adjungerad ledamot is invited to participate in discussions and may be involved in planning and advice. In many cases, adjungerade members do not have voting rights, or their voting rights are limited by the organization’s rules or statute. They are typically appointed to provide specific expertise or external perspectives, such as representatives from industry, academia, or other public bodies. The appointment is usually for a defined term and can be renewed or terminated according to the governing rules of the organization.

In higher education, the title adjungerad professor refers to an external, usually part-time professorial appointment. Such individuals remain employed by their primary institution but hold a professor’s appointment at another university to collaborate on teaching and research.
