Adiposerelated refers to anything pertaining to adipose tissue, the body's fat tissue, or to the physiological processes, disorders, and therapies associated with it. In biomedical contexts, the term covers the biology of adipocytes and adipose depots as well as pathophysiology and clinical management of conditions linked to fat tissue.

Adipose tissue exists primarily as white adipose tissue (WAT), which stores energy as triglycerides and serves as an endocrine organ, and brown adipose tissue (BAT), which dissipates energy as heat. A third class, beige or brite adipose tissue, emerges within WAT under certain stimuli. Adipocytes arise from mesenchymal progenitor cells through adipogenesis, regulated by transcription factors such as PPARgamma and C/EBP.

Adipose tissue secretes adipokines including leptin, adiponectin, resistin, and others, influencing appetite, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and metabolism. The distribution of fat—subcutaneous versus visceral depots—significantly affects metabolic risk.

Excess adipose tissue, particularly visceral fat, is associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Lipodystrophy describes conditions with abnormal adipose tissue distribution or function. Adipose inflammation and remodeling also play roles in cancer, aging, and hormonal disorders.

Research areas include adipogenesis, adipose tissue immunology, and the therapeutic potential of browning white fat. Clinically, strategies target adipose tissue through lifestyle interventions, pharmacologic agents that improve insulin sensitivity or reduce adiposity, and regenerative applications using adipose-derived stem cells.
