In military strategy, an adim typically denotes a single step or movement unit, often used to measure distances or formations.

During the Ottoman Empire, adim was a standard unit of measurement for military logistics and troop positioning. A single adim was roughly equivalent to the length of a soldier’s step, approximately 70 centimeters (28 inches). This measurement was used to calculate distances, such as the spacing between soldiers in a formation or the dimensions of military camps.

In modern usage, the term persists in Turkish military and historical literature, particularly when discussing Ottoman-era tactics, fortifications, or architectural designs.
